I tried two different ways to check for foundation issues and one saved me a lot of trouble

When I was looking at houses in the older part of town, my dad told me to just look for cracks in the walls. I did that on the first house and almost made an offer. For the second house, I paid $350 for a structural engineer to come out for an hour. He found a major slope in the floor that I never would have seen. The first method missed a huge problem. Has anyone else found a cheap check that actually missed something big?

Damn, that's scary. So the engineer basically said the whole floor was slanted? How bad was it, like did he give you a number for how much it was off?

The report said it was off by almost two inches over ten feet. That's a huge slope for a floor that's supposed to be level, nathan_lopez69. Makes you wonder what else is wrong with the building's frame.

Remember that a slope can be normal in older homes.
