Looking at my old rent checks from 3 years ago in Cleveland

I was paying $1,200 a month for a tiny apartment, and that money just vanished. Last week, I wrote my mortgage check and felt a real difference, like I'm finally building something instead of just paying a bill. Has anyone else felt that shift after moving from renting to owning?

That mortgage check just buys a different landlord, the bank.

But what happens when the mortgage is paid off? The bank stops being your landlord, and you own the house free and clear. That's a finish line renting never has.

Exactly, it's like you're paying yourself instead of a property manager. My first mortgage payment felt like I was finally getting somewhere.
