Showerthought: I heard a couple at the hardware store arguing about a $500 inspection contingency.
The guy said it was a waste of money, but the woman insisted it saved her friend from buying a place with a cracked foundation. How much did you guys budget for inspections?

My last inspection was $750 for a full structural and pest report. That guy at the hardware store is the type who'd skip an oil change to save fifty bucks, then act shocked when his engine seizes. A cracked foundation is a six-figure problem you find for the price of a decent TV. I've seen people skip the sewer scope and end up with a backyard that's basically a biohazard. It's the cheapest insurance you'll ever buy.

How many people actually get the sewer scope done though?

@julia_anderson is totally right, it's the best money you'll spend. My buddy skipped a sewer scope and had to replace the whole line from the street, cost more than his car.
