The difference in home inspection quality between a $250 and $600 inspector is wild

I went with a cheap inspector on my first house 3 years ago... he barely looked at the roof. On my second house last month I paid $600 and the guy spent 4 hours crawling under the house and testing every outlet. Found a hidden water leak in the wall that would have cost me $2k to fix later. Has anyone else seen this big of a gap between low and high priced inspectors?

...and THAT is why I always tell people you get what you PAY for. The cheap guy probably showed up with a flashlight and a prayer while a real inspector brings a moisture meter and a will to LIVE. I'd rather pay $600 and have them find a $2k leak than pay $250 and discover the house is held together with hopes and drywall screws three years later. Honestly the $250 guy should be paying YOU for the privilege of not finding anything wrong.

Honestly the cheap guy's just making sure you don't sue him, not protecting your wallet.

Paid $600 last year and the guy spent 20 minutes just on the attic. Found old knob and tube wiring the sellers had painted over to hide. Cheap inspector would have missed that entirely. Water stains in the basement too. Crawled around with a flashlight for an hour. Worth every penny when you're talking about a $300k house.
