Been cutting my own underlayment wrong for years until a client asked a simple question
I always just ran the underlayment parallel to the floorboards, thinking it was fine. Did a job in Tacoma last week where the homeowner pointed out a slight bounce in the middle of the room. He asked if the seams should maybe go the other way. I checked the roll's instructions for the first time in forever, and sure enough, it said to run it perpendicular. I've probably done it wrong on at least 50 houses. Fixed it for him and the floor felt solid as a rock. Anyone else ever have a basic install step you just assumed was right for way too long?

My uncle did the same thing with his entire kitchen floor.

Used to think it was just a floor too. Then I saw how much work and money went into a bad tile job at my friend's place. It really does matter in the long run.

But is that even a big deal? It's just a floor.
