Chalk has my floor layouts looking like crime scenes

I started using chalk for all my temporary marks to keep things clean. Now every job looks like a detective was here, and clients get a real kick out of it. What do you use for quick layout lines?

Honestly, is there any better way to do it? Tbh I switched to chalk a few years back for the same clean up reason and never looked back. My lines look exactly like those outline drawings from cop shows, just waiting for a little fake body. Ngl it has led to some pretty funny conversations with home owners who walk in looking confused. I just tell them not to worry, we’re just figuring out where the furniture died. It’s become a whole bit.

Chalk is handy for outlines, no doubt. The cop show bit is funny, but that dust gets into everything. In my experience, a low-tack tape lasts longer without the mess.

My last renovation job proved chalk dust ruins hardwood floor finishes every time.
