Had a client in a 1920s bungalow insist on a herringbone pattern with 3/4 inch solid oak

The floor was way out of level, and I spent two full days just on prep work with a self-leveler and a belt sander. Anyone else have a nightmare story with historic homes and complex patterns?

My secret was a laser level and a LOT of patience for that exact problem.

Sounds about right for a 1920s house, they love to throw in those surprise hills.

Tried a Versailles pattern once, never again.
