I lost a full day's pay on a bad moisture meter reading

I was setting up for a big glue-down job in a basement last month and my old pin meter gave me a 4.5% reading, which seemed fine. I went ahead and prepped the whole slab, about 800 square feet. The next morning, the adhesive rep came for a site check with his fancy new meter and the real reading was over 7%. I had to stop everything, dry the slab out, and eat the cost of that whole wasted day. Has anyone else had a meter fail them like that? What's a good brand you trust now?
