I ran into my old boss from the 90s at a supply house in Spokane last week.
He asked if I still used a manual knee kicker for carpet, and I admitted I switched to a power stretcher years ago. He just shook his head and said, 'We used to do a whole house with just a kicker and a hammer tacker, and it held up fine.' It made me realize how much the tools have changed the feel of the job. Anyone else still use the old hand tools for certain jobs, or is it all power now?

Totally get what you mean. It's like @milesbailey said, you feel like you're actually doing the work. I helped my uncle fix a fence last summer and he handed me a manual post hole digger. My arms were dead after two holes, but there was something solid about it, you know? No cord, no battery warning beep, just you and the dirt. Makes you appreciate the power tools more, but you also miss the grind.

Old ways just feel different, you know?

Yeah @claire_hart53, it's the little things. Like getting a paper map and actually folding it wrong, that weird crinkle sound. Or the weight of a real book in your hand, not just a screen. New stuff works fine, but the old way just had more... texture to it. You felt like you were DOING something.
