Shoutout to my old boss who told me to always glue down engineered wood
He said floating floors were just a cheap trick and would always fail in a few years (his exact words were 'it's a ticking time bomb'). I followed that for a decade, dealing with the mess and extra cost. Then, about 3 years ago, I did a floating install on a concrete slab in a basement with moisture issues, using a good underlayment. That floor is still perfect, no buckling or gaps. Now I pick the method based on the job, not a hard rule. Anyone else have a 'must-do' rule they ended up breaking?

Yeah, those old-school rules, @patricia558. Sometimes they were there to protect the company more than to help us actually do the job.

Oh man, my buddy had a tile guy swear you had to use a certain mortar for everything. He tried a different one on a small bathroom floor and it's held up for years now.
