Vent: I was cutting laminate planks with a jigsaw for years until a job in Springfield
A homeowner there asked why I didn't use a miter saw, and when I tried his, the cuts were so much cleaner and faster. I lost maybe 15 minutes per room with the jigsaw from tear-out and shaky lines. Anyone else have a tool they stuck with way too long before switching?

That "15 minutes per room" really adds up. Was it just the cleaner lines that sold you, or did the miter saw change how you planned the whole layout? Like, did you start making different cuts because you had the right tool?

Honestly, matthew166, a miter saw can trick you into overcomplicating things. You start planning for fancy corner joints everywhere just because you can, not because you need to. That "15 minutes saved" gets eaten up by measuring for perfect 45 degree cuts on simple baseboards that a hand saw could handle. Sometimes the right tool just makes you do more work for a result only you notice.

My old boss used to say a miter saw just turns a carpenter into a full time angle checker.
