Finally got the cooler in my delivery van fixed after it died on a 90-degree day last week, lost a whole batch of lisianthus.
Had a big wedding order for a venue out in Temecula. Loaded up the van at 5 AM, cooler was humming. Got halfway there and noticed it was just blowing warm air. Pulled over, everything in the back was already wilting. Had to call the client, explain, and turn around. Local mechanic said the compressor clutch gave out. Cost me $380 and a very awkward conversation, but at least I caught it before a busier weekend. Anyone have a good backup plan for when your mobile fridge goes down? I'm thinking a second, smaller portable unit just for emergencies.

Used to laugh at backup coolers, not anymore.

Those bags are actually called insulated thermal bags.

Been there, it's the worst feeling. My backup is a couple of those heavy duty insulated bags with the foil lining, the kind you get from restaurant supply stores. I keep a few frozen gel packs in a deep freezer at the shop and throw them in the bags if the main cooler acts up. It's not perfect for a long trip, but it can save a local delivery in a pinch without needing a whole extra fridge running.
