I just read that most people think roses are the most popular flower, but it's actually chrysanthemums
I was looking at some old sales reports from my shop in Tacoma and decided to check some industry numbers online. I found a report from a big flower group that said, worldwide, more chrysanthemums are sold than any other flower. I always thought roses were the top seller, hands down. It made me look at my own orders differently. I sell a lot of roses for sure, especially around Valentine's Day, but I order mums year-round for arrangements and they just move. They're cheaper for me to buy in bulk and last longer for customers. It's funny how what you think you know can be wrong. Has anyone else seen their own sales line up with that, or is it just a big farm thing?

My friend runs a flower cart in Portland and she told me last month she sold over 300 bunches of spray mums. She said people grab them for their kitchen table because they look cheerful and don't die in three days. She only orders about fifty roses a week unless it's a holiday. It really shows how what sells can depend on where you are and what people are buying them for, right?

That's interesting, but my experience is totally different. I mean, roses absolutely dominate my sales, like it's not even close. Maybe it's regional or depends on the type of shop, but mums are just filler here.

But those reports count every single stem... of course mums win when they're packed into cheap supermarket bouquets nobody really thinks about.
