I was setting up for a wedding at the old civic hall in 2012 when the bride asked for a last-minute swap from roses to dahlias.

That scramble to find enough local dahlias on a Saturday morning made me completely rethink my supplier list and now I keep a backup grower for every major flower type within 50 miles.

Honestly that backup grower list sounds like a huge hassle. Keeping a second supplier for every flower type just because of one bad morning in 2012 is overkill. It ties up money and time you could use elsewhere. Most clients give you more notice than that, and you can usually talk them out of a last minute change that big. Building a single strong relationship with a main supplier is way more reliable than spreading yourself thin trying to have a backup for everything.

Ever had a bridezilla change her mind at dawn?

That 2012 panic cost me a client and my reputation.
