Just realized how much a single comment from a delivery driver changed my shop's look

About 8 years ago, I was setting up a big wedding arch display in our front window. A regular delivery guy, Mike, stopped and said, 'You know, that's pretty, but from the street it just looks like a green blob.' He was right. I started focusing on one bold color or flower type right up front so it pops from a distance. Does anyone else design their window displays with the sidewalk view in mind first?

That's a solid point from @elliot_patel about getting stuck in your own head. Makes me wonder, how do you actually test the sidewalk view without just guessing? Like, do you ever step outside and take a picture with your phone from across the street, or do you have someone you trust just stand out there and tell you what they see first? I'd probably miss something obvious like a sign being blocked by a plant or the whole thing looking too busy from far away.

Honestly, I think that sidewalk view is overrated. Most people see your shop online first anyway.

Yeah, that's a really good point about the sidewalk view. I mean, it's like how we all forget that other people see things differently. You can get so focused on the tiny details right in front of you that you miss the big picture everyone else gets. That delivery guy gave you a gift, honestly. It's easy to get stuck in your own head about how something looks up close. Sometimes you just need that outside pair of eyes to point out the obvious thing you totally missed.
