My aunt swore by using a splash of lemon-lime soda in flower food for roses.

She said it kept them perky for a full week longer. I tried it on a batch of red velvets for a wedding, and they drooped in two days. Has anyone else tested this old trick and gotten a different result?

Tried that once with some grocery store carnations and it was a total fail. Switched to just the packet flower food and a penny in the bottom of the vase, no idea why but it works. My roses usually last about ten days that way.

Found that cutting the stems at a sharp angle under running water helps a lot. It stops air bubbles from blocking the water uptake. My carnations actually lasted a week when I started doing that.

My carnations always drooped after three days no matter what I did. I thought the flower food packets were the only real trick. Tried the angled cut under the tap last month and it was a total game changer. They stayed perky for a full eight days, which never happens at my house. I guess I was wrong to ignore the stem cutting method for so long.
