My shop's 'ugly bucket' went from ignored to a hot spot in about two days
I had this bucket in the back with stems that were a bit bent or flowers that were just past their prime for arrangements, but still had life. It sat there for a week with maybe one or two sales. Then, on Tuesday, I put a small sign on it that said 'Rescue Blooms - $3 each, help them find a home'. By Thursday afternoon, the whole bucket was empty. People loved the story and the low price point. It turned what was basically waste into a fun little side thing. Has anyone else tried something like this to move less-than-perfect stock?

Oh man, that totally reminds me of my buddy with his used bookstore. He had a whole cart of books with torn covers or notes in the margins that wouldn't sell. He slapped a sign on it calling them "Well-Loved Books" for a buck each. They were gone in a weekend. People would dig through and get so excited to find a weird old cookbook or a novel with someone's notes in it. It was like they were saving them.

But @jasonf17, that just sounds like selling trash people feel sorry for.

Used to think that was just junk too. Seeing people find value in something worn out changed my view. It's not trash if it makes someone happy.
