Vent: That customer who asked me to wire a bouquet with zip ties

A guy came into my shop in Austin last Tuesday and insisted I use zip ties instead of floral wire because he said it was sturdier, and I spent 20 minutes trying to explain why that would destroy the stems before he just walked out.

zip ties actually can flex a bit if you get the thin ones, but they still leave marks for sure. most garden centers sell those little green reusable ties that work way better and cost like nothing.

...and then he just walks out like that's the end of it. Did he actually think zip ties would flex with the stems or was he just trying to win an argument he already lost? I'm curious if he's ever even held a live stem before because that's basic stuff. What was his reaction when you showed him how the ties would cut into the stems or snap under tension? Seems like he wanted something quick and cheap without caring about the actual flower.

Yeah I had a guy try the same thing with me once @blair_martin, he just grabbed a handful of loose zip ties off the shelf and I had to show him how they'd leave permanent indentations on the stems after an hour. He ended up getting proper soft ties instead but still grumbled about the price the whole time.
