A guy at a model train show said my layout looked too clean
Honestly, I was showing off my 1950s station diorama last month, and an older collector told me my tracks and buildings looked brand new. He said real rail yards had grime, oil stains, and weeds growing through the ballast. I spent the next week adding rust streaks with brown paint, gluing static grass between the ties, and even making a tiny broken crate. Ngl, it looks way more real now, but part of me misses that perfect, shiny look. Do you think adding wear and tear always makes a hobby model better, or is a pristine display its own kind of cool?

Saying one is clearly better misses the point. A clean layout shows off the craft, and a weathered one tells a story.

Both can be cool, honestly.

Wait, you actually think both are cool? The second one is a total mess, it doesn't even work right. I can't believe you'd put them on the same level. One is clearly better built and the other is just cheap junk. Saying they're both cool feels like you're ignoring all the obvious problems.
