Hot take: those vintage fountain pen restoration kits are becoming a huge scam
My buddy Dave who's been fixing pens for 15 years told me last week that half the 'brass' tools on Etsy are just painted zinc that flakes off after 4 uses, and now I'm checking every listing twice before I buy.

Zinc coated as brass is just lazy. You're paying for something that falls apart after a few uses. Stick with known tool sellers or ask around the pen forums first.

Honestly, is anyone actually checking if the brass is real before buying? My friend tested a few kits and found half of them were just painted zinc that flakes off. Tbh, Dave's right, you gotta look closer at those Etsy listings.
