That whole 'Pressing Flowers Is Too Delicate' thing drives me nuts

I brought my pressed buttercup collection to a community swap last Saturday and a guy laughed saying it's just squished weeds. Pressing flowers properly takes patience and a good book press (mine was $12 at a flea market) to get the petals thin without tearing. Has anyone else dealt with people dismissing this craft as too simple?

Pressed flowers are basically just dried plants with extra steps, so calling them squished weeds isn't totally wrong. A $12 flea market press and some patience doesn't automatically make it an art form worth respect. If you're getting upset over one guy's opinion at a swap meet, maybe the craft is more fragile than the flowers.

Is it just me or did half of us start pressing flowers because we couldn't keep a real plant alive for more than a week? I'm right there with you, my first batch looked like I ran them over with a lawnmower then left them in a damp basement. But honestly, I've seen some people frame those squished weeds in a way that makes me feel like I should apologize to my own dried-out dandelions. The craft might be fragile, but my ego sure isn't. I'll stick to calling them fancy compost and move on.

Funny how a guy who's never pressed anything heavier than a beer can thinks he's an expert on delicate hobbies... bet that flea market press works better than his opinion does. Maybe next time I'll bring my dandelions in a ziploc baggie and tell him it's a deconstructed garden concept. If fragile egos are the real art form here, seems like he's got a whole exhibition going.
