TIL my grandpa's obsession with repairing old fountain pens was actually brilliant

Honestly, I thought it was just dusty junk until he showed me how to fix a 1950s Parker 51's feed in his garage last weekend, and now I get it. Has anyone else revived a hobby they initially thought was pointless?

Oh man, that's so cool! It's wild how hands-on skills like that can click. My dad used to re-sole his own shoes, and I totally rolled my eyes. Then I tried it on a pair of my boots, and the focus it takes is weirdly calming. It turns a broken thing into something with a whole new story.

Remember watching my grandma darn socks by hand when I was a kid, @jones.nancy. I thought it was the most boring thing ever. Fast forward to last month when I fixed a huge tear in my favorite sweater. That slow, careful stitching totally pulled me into the moment. It's like the whole world just fades away until you're just you and the thing you're fixing. What's the most random thing you've ever tried to repair?

Start with something cheap and simple.
