Found a guy fixing a stone wall in the woods near my house
He was maybe 70, using a hammer and chisel on a loose piece of granite, and he told me his grandfather built this wall in 1932. He said he walks up every few months to keep it from falling apart, because 'someone should remember how it's done.' How many of these quiet little projects are still being kept up by people we never see?

My neighbor's 90 and still hand-sharpens every lawnmower blade on our street. Guess @jamie_carter87 is right, we're surrounded by secret fixers.

We could all learn from that.

That idea of "someone should remember how it's done" really sticks with me. I see it in old guys fixing watches or ladies mending lace, skills that just fade away. It's like a whole secret world of upkeep happening right under our noses.
