Finally started recognizing backyard bird songs, but I'm stuck on a few. Help?
I've been spending more time on my porch lately and decided to learn the bird songs I hear every morning. It started with the clear 'cheerily cheer up' of robins, which was easy. Now I can pick out cardinals by their whistles. But there's this one repetitive chirp I can't figure out, maybe a sparrow? I tried a free app, but it's not always accurate. Has anyone else gotten into birding from home? What resources worked for you?

Have you tried matching the chirp to recordings on a bird website? I used to think it was all random noise, but learning just ONE call at a time completely changed my mind.

Actually read an article about this last week. It said our brains are wired to hear bird calls as background noise until we learn to pick out a pattern. Like once you know a robin's song, you'll hear it everywhere. Makes total sense now. Starting with one common bird in your yard is the way to go. It stops being just noise and starts sounding like a real conversation.
