Hit 32 years at the same job last Thursday and it kind of blew my mind

I work at a small machine shop in Dayton and I just realized I've been turning wrenches there since 1993. Not counting weekends or breaks that's like 8,320 days of the same parking lot and coffee pot. Nobody stays that long anymore and honestly I never planned to. My old boss retired 10 years ago and the new guy jokes I'm the building's skeleton key because I know where every circuit breaker is. It just hit me that I've fixed the same drill press four times over three decades. Has anyone else looked up and realized they've been somewhere way longer than they thought?

I used to think staying put was settling, but hearing this changed my whole perspective on loyalty.

What made you decide to stick around after your old boss retired instead of looking for something new? Was it just habit or did something keep you there?

Was he actually your old boss or did he just train you in?
