My dad told me I was wasting money on expensive fishing lures and after I lost three in one afternoon on Lake Lanier last week, I finally admitted he was right.

He handed me his old wooden crawfish lure he's had since the 80s and I caught four bass on the same spot where I had just snagged and lost a $12 store-bought one, so has anyone else had to swallow their pride and go back to the cheap or handmade stuff?

Lost three in one afternoon" sounds like my buddy Pete. He switched back to his grandpa's jig and won't shut up about it.

Funny you mention that, I had a similar problem on Lake Michigan last fall. Tried every fancy new lure in my tackle box and got skunked for two days straight. Finally broke down and grabbed this old rusty spoon my dad gave me back in the 80s, the paint was half chipped off but it was the only thing they'd hit. Caught five decent smallmouth before sundown, and my buddy still gives me grief about it. Sometimes the old stuff just has that magic, you know?

Lost three in one afternoon" - that reminds me of my buddy Mike. He was out on this little lake in Wisconsin, had brand new gear, expensive lures, the whole deal. He lost three good fish because his fancy reel jammed up twice and a snap swivel broke on the third. The next weekend he showed up with this beat up old Mitchell 300 his grandpa left him, ugly looking thing. He caught more fish that day than the rest of us combined and now he brings it everywhere, even talks to it like it's a person.
