My kid's school project made me look up how many fireflies are left
He had to draw a bug for science class last week, and he picked a firefly... which got me thinking, I hadn't seen one in our yard for a while. I looked it up on my phone while he colored, and a site from a university said some types have dropped by almost 70% in the last 20 years because of light pollution and lawns. It was just a random fact, but it made me sit there on the porch step feeling kind of sad for a minute. Has anyone else noticed them getting harder to find where you live?

Bug zappers always made that awful sizzle sound.

That "stuck in the bug zapper" thing was the worst part. It felt mean because they were just trapped there frying. I stopped using ours because of that.
