My park bench find turned into a lasting chat
Yesterday at the park, I found a black wallet on a bench. Inside was a driver's license with a local address. I called the number listed and reached the owner. She came quickly and was so grateful. We started chatting and discovered we live in the same neighborhood. Our talk went on for an hour, sharing stories about the area. Now we've made plans to meet for coffee next week. It felt really good to help and make a new friend.

Were you worried about calling a stranger from the wallet? I'm glad it worked out, but I always feel it's safer to take found stuff to the police. They can contact the owner so you don't risk meeting someone bad. Your story is really cool, but not every person would turn out to be friendly like that. I've read stories where returning things directly went wrong because of scams. What made you sure it was okay to call her number?

My cousin once returned a lost dog using its tag, and the owner baked us cookies, wasn't that sweet?

Totally get that worry, it's smart to be careful. I figure calling was okay here because the license had a close address and it was broad daylight in a public park. Meeting at the police station is safest for sure, but sometimes the situation just feels right.
