Showerthought: I just realized I've been to 47 different houses this year for work.
I was filling out a job log for my taxes and counted them up. It hit me that each one was a whole family's home, with their own stories and messes and photos on the fridge. Has anyone else had a number sneak up on them like that?

Reminds me of my friend who cleans carpets. He told me about finding a single baby shoe, perfectly clean, tucked behind a couch leg in a totally empty house. Said it stuck with him for weeks, wondering about the story there. Makes you realize how many tiny, unseen chapters you walk through in other people's spaces. That kind of count really does make the world feel both huge and very small all at once.

That baby shoe story from @stellaw91 haunts me too.

Exactly. Those little lost objects are like ghosts of a life that moved on without them. Makes you wonder about the split second it got kicked under there, and how everything changed AFTER that moment. The house is empty but that tiny shoe is still holding the whole memory of a family. Kind of beautiful and sad at the same time.
