Found a cool rock formation near Sedona last week, but the trail was way more eroded than the map showed.

The path down to the sandstone layers had a 4-foot washout that wasn't marked, and I almost took a bad fall. Anyone else run into sketchy trail conditions hunting for outcrops lately?

Honestly makes me wonder if the park service maps are even being updated after these monsoon seasons. The erosion patterns change so fast now that last year's info is basically useless. Kind of forces you to treat every hike like a scouting trip.

Yeah, @eva_thompson, the maps are just fancy souvenirs now.

Totally, it's like the whole idea of a trail being a fixed thing is gone. You'll find a washout where the path should be, or a creek crossing that's now a ten foot drop. Makes you rely on those little rock cairns other hikers leave, which feels kinda wild. Honestly the old skills like reading the land and watching the weather are coming back big time.
