My local creek is eroding faster since people started taking rocks for gardens. Any tips to help?
I've visited this creek for years to study its rocks. Recently, more people are taking stones for gardens, causing faster erosion. Last month, a bank section collapsed after heavy rain, which I think is linked. I enjoy rock collecting but hate to see the damage. Isn't it important to protect these places for the future? What can we do to enjoy geology without harming sites? Your tips would be appreciated.

Man, nothing says "I love nature" like stripping a creek bed bare so your petunias can have a nicer home than the local fish. Guess we're trading whole ecosystems for those trendy river rock borders, one bucket at a time until the bank just gives up and slides away.

Seriously, everyone needs to calm down about a few rocks. Creeks change all the time, and blaming garden lovers is a stretch. Those stones were just sitting there doing nothing, and now they're making someone's yard beautiful. That's a BETTER use if you ask me. Erosion happens with or without people, and that bank would have washed out from heavy rain anyway.

Check if your state has aggregate laws like mine, grantw32, because taking rocks can be a real crime.
