Am I the only one who thinks a 50-piece color sample set is overkill?
Honestly, I finally used up my first full 5-pound jar of cobalt blue frit after three years, and hitting that empty jar felt like a bigger deal than any fancy color kit. Tbh, I think getting really good with a few core colors matters more than having a huge rainbow you barely touch. What's one color you've used so much you know it inside out?

Getting good with a few core colors" is the goal, but for me the big sample set was how I found my core colors. I'd have never bought a jar of that weird olive green on its own, but it's now my most used shade.

Totally get what you mean, @emery_black. I had the same thing happen with a gross-looking mustard yellow from a sample pack. Never would have touched it in a full size, but now it's my go-to for warming up any mix. Those big sets are perfect for getting past your own color biases. You end up using stuff you'd never pick for yourself, and it just clicks.

Honestly, it's just paint. The way people talk about finding their "core colors" sounds so intense for something that washes off. Sure, sample sets are fun to play with, but calling it a way to "get past your own biases" feels like a lot. It's okay to just like a color because it looks nice on the wall, you know? Not every hobby needs to be a deep journey of self-discovery.
