My stubborn refusal to pre-heat a punty finally cost me a piece
Was finishing a goblet stem last Thursday and the cold punty caused a thermal crack right at the join. I had to scrap the whole thing after about 2 hours of work. Anyone have a good punty warmer brand they actually like?

Ugh, that's the worst. gavinb97 is right, but honestly I just keep a second small torch on my bench just for punties now.

Honestly, the idea of a second torch just for punties seems like overkill. I've never pre-heated one in twenty years. That crack sounds more like a stress issue from how the piece was attached, not the punty temp. A cold punty can actually help set the seal faster if you know how to roll it on right. Adding more gear just complicates a simple process.
