Pro tip: The 'cheap' graphite paddle from that online auction site is a total fire risk
I bought a 'graphite' shaping paddle for $15 from a seller called 'GlassTools4U' on that big auction site, thinking it was a steal. After about a month of normal use, it started to smoke and flake off black dust into my piece, ruining a whole day's work. It turned out to be some kind of painted wood or composite, not real graphite at all. Has anyone else found a good, safe source for basic hand tools that won't burn up?

Yeah, that "painted wood or composite" situation is a real nightmare. I got burned the same way and finally just went with a known brand, like Arrow Springs, for my basic paddles. It costs more upfront but the real graphite lasts for years without any of that scary smoke or flaking.

My last three cheap toasters all did that.

Ever notice how everything is just cheap paint over junk now? It's not just tools, my kid's toy truck did the same flaky thing last week. Feels like you can't trust what anything is made of anymore.
