Vent: My studio partner tried to switch us to all soft glass three years ago and it was a disaster

He got a deal on a pallet of soft glass rods and said we should just use it for everything, even our pipe work. Within a month, we had three major pieces crack in the kiln because the annealing schedules were all wrong for the different COE. I remember one piece, a worked tube I spent 6 hours on, just split right down the middle. We lost about $400 in materials and time before I put my foot down and made us go back to boro for the structural stuff. It felt like we had to relearn our own craft. Anyone else ever have a partner push a material change that just blew up in your face?

Wait, he tried to use all recycled silver? Like, for everything? That sounds like a total nightmare... the quality can be so hit or miss depending on the source. I can't imagine trying to make a whole line with that, the inconsistency would drive me up the wall. Some batches just don't work right at all.

You used to think it was just hype? Seeing how much waste it cuts changed my mind.
