Why does nobody talk about seagulls being the worst studio assistants?

During a glassblowing trip to the coast, a seagull made off with my jacks mid-pull. My vase ended up with a wild spiral no one planned, but it's kinda cool? The whole class was cracking up while I scrambled after the bird.

Oh man, the towel trick is key. I keep a couple old, dark colored shop rags right on my bench for that exact reason. The second I turn my back, I just flop one over my jacks or shears. Those birds are like magpies, they see any bit of shiny metal and it's gone. I lost a good pair of tweezers to one before I figured it out.

Wait, it stole your jacks mid pull?

Yeah, they're the worst. Learned the hard way to never leave jacks or shears near the edge of the bench, even for a second. Those birds love anything shiny and will grab it. I started keeping a plain towel nearby just to throw over my tools if I have to step away. It's the only thing that works.
