Question about a simple rust removal method for older firearms

I had an old rifle with some light rust spots on the receiver. Instead of harsh chemicals, I used a paste made from baking soda and water, applied it with a soft cloth. After letting it sit for a bit, I gently scrubbed and the rust wiped away clean. Just be sure to rinse and dry the area thoroughly before oiling to prevent any residue.

Great for guns, and the same paste removes rust from kitchen knives easily.

Sounds like a recipe for cleaning a gun, not cooking dinner.

Used that paste before, @emery_black, and it kept my receiver rust-free.
