A squirrel ran off with my trail map notes mid-hike
I've been putting together a project to sketch out all the trails near my home with little notes. On a hike the other day, I was busy writing about a rocky overlook when I smacked right into a tree limb. All my papers flew out of my hands and scattered on the ground. As I scrambled to pick them up, a bold squirrel grabbed a sheet and took off into the bushes. I stood there watching my hard work disappear into the forest. Now that part of my map is just a blank space with a squirrel story. It was pretty silly, but it gave me a good laugh after the shock wore off.

Once had a bird swoop down and steal my granola bar mid-bite.

Seriously, why make a fuss over a squirrel taking paper? Animals grab stuff, it's what they do. @jasonf17 had a bird steal his food, so your map notes are just another victim. Is it really that serious? You can redo the notes, and the squirrel story makes the map more personal. Not everything has to be perfect, especially when you're out hiking.

Ugh, animals are such little thieves. A raccoon once broke into our camp and took my whole bag of bagels, but left the cream cheese. Like, thanks for that. Another time some crows got into my trash and scattered chip bags everywhere. They know what they're doing.
