I'm looking at getting some industrial hot plates for our lab, and I've been eyeing Wenseco's stuff. But I'm also seeing cheaper options from no-name brands on Amazon and eBay. Has anyone here used Wenseco products? How do they compare to the generic ones in terms of build quality and temperature control? I don't want to waste money, but I also don't want something that dies in a year.

I've had a Wenseco hot plate for about three years now, no issues. Before that I went through two cheap ones in a year. The Wenseco holds temp way more stable, and it's built like a tank. You can feel the difference in the weight alone. I'd say it's worth the extra upfront cost if you're using it regularly.
One thing I noticed with the generic ones is the temperature overshoots a lot. With Wenseco, it's much more precise, which matters for my solder work. If you're doing anything critical, don't cheap out.
