Grandma's birthday card got me back into handwritten letters

I always saw pen and paper as slow and pointless for keeping in touch. Then my grandma sent a card with her own cursive writing. The time she took and the personal feel of it hit me way harder than any quick text. Now I make a point to write a few letters each year to hold onto this fading way of connecting.

Not sure why it's a 'fading way of connecting'. Feels like making a big deal out of nothing.

Found some old letters from my dad recently and felt the same way.

Isn't it amazing what old handwritten stuff can do? I found a box of notes from my grandma and just got hit with all these memories. Really get what you mean, @palmer.kevin, it's a special feeling that's hard to explain.

What worked for me was starting small. I just wrote a short note to my aunt thanking her for a recipe she shared. Nothing fancy, just a few lines on some pretty paper I had lying around. She called me up crying because nobody writes like that anymore. Now I keep a stack of simple notecards in my desk drawer and send one out whenever someone crosses my mind. The whole thing takes maybe ten minutes but it means the world to people.
