Had a funny mix-up with a customer's boat name during a repair estimate

He said 'Sea Breeze' but I heard 'Sea Cheese' and wrote it down. Now I double-check everything, but what's your best method for avoiding communication errors?

Got to laugh at that one. I always repeat the name back to the customer before writing it down. Saves a lot of headaches.

Have you considered writing it down and showing it to them after repeating it back? That way, like @the_kevin said, you catch auditory mix-ups, but also visual ones if your handwriting is unclear. It adds an extra layer of verification that's saved me from similar slip-ups.

That just sounds like overcomplicating a simple process.
