Unpopular opinion: Splitting an inherited house with siblings is a nightmare
My sister and I can't see eye to eye on what to do with our dad's place. She's all about flipping it, but I think we should rent it out. Has anyone found a fair way to handle this mess?

My sister wanted to flip our dad's house, but I insisted on keeping it. Now I'm knee-deep in repair manuals and questioning my life choices.

Dealing with a parent's house can really strain family ties. Kim_johnson51's story about repair manuals shows how keeping the house isn't always easier. Have you thought about getting a third person to help you decide?

Family ties... my friend's brothers stopped talking over their mom's place.

Oh, that's a tough one. It's funny how possessions can drive wedges between people who used to share a room growing up. I've seen this pattern play out with a few families I know. It's never really about the house or the stuff itself. It's about history and feelings that never got sorted out. People end up fighting over a dining table because it reminds one of a nice holiday and the other of being forced to do homework. The house just becomes a stand-in for all those unresolved things.
