Unpopular opinion: Skipping smart lighting in my kitchen remodel was the right call.

In my experience, traditional switches are more reliable for daily use.

My kitchen redo included smart lighting, and I've found it incredibly reliable with proper setup. Being able to voice control lights when my hands are full with groceries is a lifesaver. I set scenes for morning coffee and dinner parties that change the whole ambiance. Sure, traditional switches are simple, but smart systems offer flexibility that's hard to give up. After a year of daily use, I haven't missed the old way at all. The convenience outweighs any initial hesitation about reliability!

After reading your post, I'm curious how you achieved such reliability with your setup? I used to dismiss smart lighting as just another Tech Fad that would complicate life. Your description of handling groceries with voice control completely shifted my perspective, honestly. Like @briank66 joked about lights outsmarting us, I feared complexity, but your reliable experience proves otherwise. Creating scenes for daily routines sounds like it brings genuine EASE and atmosphere beyond basic switches. Now I'm reconsidering my own kitchen lights because your practical benefits are too compelling to ignore.

Switches win every time... Smart lighting seems great until the network drops or an update bugs out... In a kitchen, you want lights that just turn on every single time. Scenes and voice control are neat for parties, but for day to day, a physical switch is all you need. Choosing good quality dimmers gives you control without the hassle. After seeing friends struggle with their smart homes, I'm happy with my simple choice.
