Appreciation post: A grimy tablecloth fix made me rethink vintage linens
I used to walk right past the linen section at thrift stores. Everything looked dingy or had old stains, so I thought it was all trash. Then I saw this floral tablecloth with a huge tea stain, but the pattern was too nice to leave. I dug up an old tip online about soaking stuff in baking soda and vinegar. Tried it on the tablecloth, left it overnight, and the stain was totally gone. Now I always check for linens because most stains come out with a little work. It feels good to save something nice that others might toss.

Wow, I totally used to think that way too until I tried restoring an old napkin set. It's crazy what a simple soak can fix.

Right there with you. I had some old linen napkins my grandma gave me that I almost threw out, then tried an overnight soak and they came out like new. It's wild how much we overcomplicate things before just trying the simple stuff.

Yeah white vinegar in the soak is key for set-in stains. Like half a cup in a sink full of cool water, let it sit for a few hours before a gentle wash. Breaks down the old gunk without hurting the fabric.

My mom swore by white vinegar for grass stains on my little league uniforms back in the day. She'd fill the kitchen sink and leave my filthy pants in there overnight. It always worked, but our whole house would smell like a pickle jar for a day, which was kind of weird lol. I still use the trick on old towels sometimes.
