Vent: A weird silence in my VR forest world creeped me out
I was walking through this peaceful virtual forest last night. Everything went dead quiet, no birds or wind sounds. It felt so wrong I had to take the headset off. That kind of bug just ruins the whole point of escaping there. They really need to fix these atmosphere breaks fast.

Maybe the silence wasn't a bug? Sounds like it worked perfectly if it freaked you out that much. Could be a feature to make the world feel more real, like when everything goes quiet in a real forest.

When the background sounds stopped in a horror game, it really ramped up the tension. It made everything feel more real, just like you mentioned.

That 30 seconds of dead audio in Silent Hills PT made me practically SCREAM at my TV before I realized it was on purpose. Sarah White is spot on with the forest comparison because honestly I would rather hear a twig snap than absolute nothing. The silence just sits there and lets your brain invent way worse things than any sound designer could.

If the devs meant to cut the sound, that's a smart way to mess with your head. It blurs the line between a glitch and part of the experience. Does that happen often in other VR worlds you've tried?
