Appreciation post: my kid's 4th grade teacher made me question whether AI tutors are actually good for kids
My daughter's teacher pulled me aside after school in Dayton last week and mentioned that her class of 22 kids now uses an AI reading helper for 20 minutes a day. She likes it for tracking progress but worries the kids are getting answers without the struggle, and honestly I've been going back and forth on it since. On one side, the tool caught my daughter's weak spot with vowel teams that I never would have noticed. On the other, the teacher pointed out that kids now skip the part where they sit with a hard word and get frustrated, and that frustration might be where the real learning happens. Anyone else have a kid using one of these at school, and did it actually help or just make homework faster?
Is a little frustration really the magic thing here? Sounds like the teacher is just worried about a change. The tool found a weak spot you missed, that seems like a win to me.
