I finally saw an AI art generator break in real time during a demo

I was at a small tech meetup in Austin last Thursday watching a guy show off his new image generation tool. He typed in something simple like a cat in a raincoat and the thing spat out a creature with three eyes and a leg growing out of its head. At first everyone laughed but then it kept glitching on every single prompt he tried, like the model was corrupted or something. He rebooted the whole setup and still got mangled fingers and faces that looked like melting wax. Turns out his training data had a bad batch that got mixed in during the last update and he didn't catch it for two weeks. I've been messing with these tools for months now and never saw one just fall apart that hard mid session. Has anyone else seen an AI model just totally unravel like that during a live demo?

Rebooting usually fixed it for me, ended up being a corrupted weight file.

Read a post on Reddit the other day about someone having the same issue with corrupted weight files in Stable Diffusion. They said it was caused by a bad download and had to re-download the entire model again. Apparently it's more common than I thought, especially with larger checkpoint files.

...and he was stuck on this for like two days straight, trying everything. He kept saying it was a driver issue or something with his VRAM. Turns out it was just a bad download of the SDXL model he grabbed from some random mirror site. I told him to just delete it and re-download from the official huggingface link, and it worked first try. So yeah, corrupted weight files are a real pain, especially if you don't notice right away.
