I saw a demo in Austin that made me question the whole 'AI art is just a tool' thing

At a tech meetup in Austin last month, they showed an AI that could make a full movie trailer from a one-sentence idea in under 2 minutes. Everyone cheered, but it felt wrong. The trailer was slick, but it had no soul, no weird choices a human director would make. It made me think we're not just using a tool, we're handing over the creative spark. Now I refuse to use AI for the first draft of any project. Has anyone else seen an AI demo that actually made them step back, not lean in?

Skip the boring part and you skip the learning. That first draft teaches you what you actually want to say. Using AI for it just gives you generic filler.

So what happens when the boring part is actually where you find your own voice? That generic filler might be hiding the exact weird choice you needed.

But what if that slick, soulless first draft is just the boring part we should skip anyway?
