My coworker told me to use ChatGPT for tax prep and I almost got audited

Our senior accountant, Dave, swore ChatGPT could handle simple Schedule C calculations for a client last month. I plugged in some numbers and it gave me a perfectly formatted paragraph that looked right but was actually completely wrong on the mileage deduction. I caught it during review (thank goodness) because the auto expenses didn't match the business use percentage at all. Has anyone else had AI give them confidently wrong answers on financial stuff?

Man, @miles_roberts is spot on about that false sense of security. I trusted AI to write a joke for me once and it landed flatter than my last attempt at doing my own taxes.

Mileage deduction being way off? That is genuinely terrifying. Dave the senior accountant vouching for it makes it even worse, because that gives people a false sense of security. I had a buddy use an AI to crunch numbers for a rental property and it double counted the depreciation. He didn't catch it until the IRS sent a nasty letter. It's wild how smooth and professional the wrong answers look compared to the messy reality of actual tax rules.
