Remember when you had to wait a week for a model to train?

I was working on a project in 2018 where a simple image classifier took 72 hours to run on our local server. Last month, I used a new tool called FastAI and got similar results on my laptop in under 20 minutes. It's wild how much the speed and access have changed in just a few years. Anyone else have a moment where a new tool made an old task feel ancient?

Feel like a dinosaur remembering my first neural net. I coded everything from scratch in 2016, waiting three days just to see it fail because I messed up the learning rate. Now I can slap together a working prototype during my lunch break using a library I barely understand. The whiplash is real.

Wait, you coded a neural net from scratch?
